Participation Expectations
At Sunstone Montessori, parent involvement is vital to our success. This close partnership strengthens our community and directly benefits your child.
Parents and caregivers make a meaningful difference by supporting the classroom, attending parent education sessions, and participating in community events.
As a member of the Sunstone community we ask every parent to participate in the following ways:
Classroom Flowers/Laundry
We ask every family to contribute to their classroom by bringing in fresh flowers and/or doing the weekly laundry.

Community Building
One of the questions we hear most often from families is, “How can I get involved and get to know other families?” The answer is simple: show up, lend a hand, and be part of the life of the school.
A strong community is built through the contributions of many. We ask every family to choose three ways to support Sunstone this year. Whether you have an hour to volunteer, a skill to share, or a larger role you’d like to take on, every contribution matters.

Parent Education
Your children thrive when we are in partnership with each other. In support of this partnership we offer an array of parent education on topics including child development, Montessori, and parenting. It is our expectation that families will attend the parent education opportunities that are relevant to their child’s age.

More Opportunities to Support Sunstone
Be a Chaperone
- Throughout the year, parent drivers and chaperones are needed to support our Elementary Going Out program. When a student or a small group of students has exhausted the classroom resources, they need to “go out” into the world to find more information. This could take the form of interviewing an expert, going to a museum, visiting a specific location, or going behind the scenes at a business, the zoo, or restaurant.
Join the Auction Committee or Volunteer to Help Out
You’re warmly invited to join the Sunstone community on April 24, 2027, for our biggest and most anticipated event of the year—the Gala & Auction! This special evening is all about building community and raising vital funds for Sunstone.
Your participation is key to our success. Whether by attending the event or helping behind the scenes, there are numerous ways you can contribute. We need volunteers to assist with various aspects of the event, from setup to coordination. Even if you can’t attend, your participation is invaluable in making this night a success. Please email our Gala co-chairs, Kat and Ashlee, to learn more about ways you can help, gala@sunstonemontessori.org.
- Join the Committee: If you love parties, have a flair for décor, like planning or organizing events, or love working with a fun group of people, please email our Gala co-chairs, Kat and Ashlee, to learn more about joining the Auction Committee, gala@sunstonemontessori.org.
Share Your Knowledge With a Classroom
Do you play a musical instrument? Have an artistic skill or craft like calligraphy or weaving? Are you an expert on sharks or machines or gardening or really anything under the sun? Are you a history buff with love for a particular genre? Do you have an affinity for and know how to cook a particular ethnic food?
If you answered yes to any of the above or have ANY OTHER skills, knowledge, or expertise on ANYTHING, then we’d love to know about it and put you in our resource binder for the classrooms.
If an interest in the classroom matches your particular skill set or knowledge base, the Guide or a student will get in touch with you to coordinate a date and time to share your knowledge. You may be asked to share with the whole class or only a few children. Either way, your skills and knowledge are a valuable asset to the growth and discovery in our community.
