Sunstone Readathon
Help fund a whole new chapter for Sunstone!
The Sunstone Readathon is all about promoting reading at our school, while also raising funds for Sunstone. From September 30th to October 31st students will read for as many minutes as they can and ask family and friends to sponsor their reading!
Every minute read helps Sunstone raise funds for vital projects, like increasing our financial aid offerings, improving and beautifying the new Milwaukie campus, and purchasing materials for our classrooms to create the best prepared environments.
Children who read for pleasure are more likely to be successful and happy throughout their lives. A Readathon motivates reluctant readers to give reading a go, and inspires keen readers to read more widely. Children choose what they want to read – it’s about reading for fun!
Two ways to sponsor
By the minute sponsors
For the sponsor who wants to challenge a student to read as many minutes as they can!
At the end of the Readathon, families are responsible for calculating totals, collecting payments from sponsors (or directing sponsors to the Readathon giving form to pay with a credit card), and bringing any cash or check payments, with the “sponsorship form” and the “minutes read” form, to the office by November 14th.
Flat rate sponsors
For the sponsor who just wants to support a student’s reading with a flat rate donation!
Families simply need to collect the sponsorship money from sponsors (or direct the sponsor to the Readathon giving form to pay with a credit card) and bring all cash or check payments, with the “sponsorship form” and the “minutes read” form, to the office by November 14th.
Donations Due November 14th
Families are responsible for collecting payments when the Readathon is over. We will accept:
- Cash
- Check made out to Sunstone Montessori School
- Credit Card
- sponsors can pay by credit card via the Readathon Giving Form
Instructions and Resources for Parents, Guardians, and Readers
Here’s how parents and guardians can help:
- Encourage your student to reach out to family and friends for sponsorships.
- Sponsors can choose to donate a flat rate or to pledge by the minute
- Payment methods include credit card through the Readathon giving form, cash, or check made out to Sunstone Montessori School.
- Read with your child! Every minute spent reading outside of school hours counts.
- When the Readathon is over, help your child calculate totals, collect payments from sponsors, and bring in any cash or check payments, with the “sponsorship form” and the “minutes read” form, to the office by November 14th.
Readathon Packet
Information packets were distributed at Fall Community Day and in the classrooms. Packets include instructions, a sponsorship form, a tracking form, and sample templates for students to organize their “ask” for sponsorships.
We will have extra forms in the office, so feel free to stop by and pick some up! Thank you for your support and for helping your child to keep reading!
Time spent reading alone or time spent reading with a parent or adult can be logged as minutes read!
