Over the past 25 years, Jennifer has had the privilege of guiding children from ages three through twelve, in both public and private settings, from Alaska to Oregon. Jennifer brings to her students a love of nurturing community alongside a passion for academic study and finding what sparks a sense of wonder.
Jennifer completed her AMI Primary training at the Ohio Montessori Training Institute in 1998 and ventured to Juneau to guide a primary class. After a pause for international travel, Jennifer went on to receive her AMI Elementary diploma from the Washington Montessori Institute and Masters in Education from Loyola University in 2002. After which, she returned to Juneau to join the Montessori Borealis public elementary program as a lower elementary guide.
In addition to classroom experience at the primary and elementary levels, Jennifer has served as the Executive Director for the Oregon Montessori Association and enjoyed her role as Course Assistant for the Montessori Northwest AMI Elementary Training course.
Jennifer has served on the Boards of Southeast Alaska Friends of Montessori and Juneau Montessori School, and has been on the Whole Child Montessori Center Board since 2010. In 2014, Jennifer returned to the classroom as a Lower Elementary guide at Lewis and Clark Montessori Charter School in beautiful Damascus, OR, before joining Sunstone as the Trillium Guide in 2015.
She was recently nominated for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching, and has always loved sharing in children’s “aha” moments when they dig into work with the Montessori materials.
Having this opportunity to grow with your children and contribute to Sunstone at the Middle School level is an honor. She is excited to focus her love of academics on the richness of the curriculum, and show a few more sides of herself through the arts, humanities, and outdoor education work we will do together. From sailing across the Atlantic on a schooner to kayaking with humpbacks in Alaska, Jennifer is ready for adventure and more ways to share her heartfelt love of community.
When not in the classroom, Jennifer and her teenage children, both Sunstone alums, love to explore the many pleasures of life in the Northwest and Northern Michigan.
