May 14 - May 18
Sunstone is participating in the Walk+Bike to school challenge for the entire month of May and we welcome you to join the fun. Every student will receive a tracking card in their take home folders. Simply track the days that you took alternative transportation to school (bicycle, scooter, skateboard, roller skates or walking) and at the end of the month turn your tracking cards into Kristen. This challenge is not an individual competition. It’s meant to promote healthy lifestyle awareness. Click below to download a map that designates safe cycling routes to Sunstone.
We realize that for many families cycling or walking from home is not an option but we don’t want that to discourage you and we certainly don’t want to exclude you from Walk+Bike Month. You can still participate by driving to a nearby location and walking or biking from there. The Green Team has put together a map (download below) that designates three good park+walk+bike routes to Sunstone: Willamette Park, Fulton Park, and George Himes Park (walking only). Click below to download the map and find the park+walk+bike route that you would like to try!
Bike Parking: There is uncovered bicycle parking in front of the school and covered parking on the blacktop. Students are welcome to leave their bicycle in either location during the school day.
Bike Fairies: During the challenge bike fairies will be randomly visiting bicycles on campus, so if your child rides to school they just may receive a surprise package.
Bike Clinics Every Monday on the Front Lawn: The Green Team will be hosting Bike Clinics on the front lawn every Monday, starting April 30, from 3:00-4:00pm. Bring your bike and helmet to the front lawn after 3:00pm for a parts check, Q&A, riding skills practice, help with routes and crossings, or to find a riding buddy. Don’t have bikes/not sure where to start? Contact the Green Team <firstname.lastname@example.org> and let us know how we can help you cut your carbon footprint and get outside this May.
